"What did you just say to me?"
Newsletter addendum: My column on talking back as a form of civil resistance.
A few days ago, I announced at the end of my Newsletter that I’ll be taking time off to work on a new book. So why am I back in your In Box? Beecause I can’t resist alerting you to my column, “What Did You Just Say To Me? The value of talking back in the age of Trump.” Talking back is a form of civil resistance. Don’t let anyone muzzle your voice.
I call out a lot of people when they refer to women as "Ladies." It drives me nuts. Most people, especially men, have no idea how their language perpetuates inequities and stereotypes. In your words, "lady" denotes an expected behavior and is meant to diminish or control (often subconsciously) a woman. For some reason, I think men have trouble saying the word "woman" - that it has some kind of sexual connotation. I just don't get it.
